Field

The term "Baseball" first showed up in English books in the mid 18th Century. These books were printed and read in the U.S.A. and had titles such as "The Boy's Book of Sport" or "The Book of Sports". The actual game of baseball developed from these forerunners - especially on the east coast of the U.S.

Alexander Cartwright documented the first book of rules in 1845. The field dimensions and basic rules that he specified have not drastically changed to this day. Cartwright/u2019s team, the "New York Knickerbockers", played the first official game against a team of selected players from New York. The first baseball association was founded in 1858 with clubs from 25 cities of the States of New York and New Jersey.

The triumphal procession of baseball began and was unstoppable after the civil war (1865). The first official, professional baseball club of modern sports named the "Cincinnati Red Stockings" was founded in 1869 and two years later the first professional league was established, which was merged into the "National League" in 1876, still being the oldest existing Sports league in the world. Even though professional baseball is played in many other countries (e.g. Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Australia, Venezuela), Major League in the U.S. is considered the most powerful and significant League in the world.
